I first cut a piece of 1/4" inch Masonite about a quarter inch smaller than the opening of the window.

Next I attached furring strips to the inside of the window well.   I set them back about 3/8" to accommodate the thickness of the Masonite, magnetic strip and the steel.   I then painted the strips blue to blend in with the rest of backdrop.

I went down to Menards and got a couple of rolls of 1/2" flexible strip magnet and three pieces of 1/8" X 1/2" X 4' weldable steel.  I cut the steel and the magnetic strip to size.   The magnetic strip comes with a sticky back but the adhesive on the tape will not work on porous surfaces so I used contact cement to attach the magnets to the furring strips.   I then glued the steel to the back of the Masonite.

Here's what the window looked like before I put the trim in place.

For the trim I used moulding that's used to connect 1/8" think panels together.   I cut the back of the moulding off with a utility knife and the fastened the trim to Masonite.   I cut the angles using a miter box. Here is the result after the trim has been glued in place and painted.

Now It's time for me to wield a flaming paintbrush and liberate the artist in me...ROTFL. Click here to find out what happens.
